Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 23%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the pharmaceutical industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings drop by 26% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 23% in Q3 2023, with new job postings dropping by 42% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Life, Physical, and Social Science Occupations with a 12% share in Q3 2023, Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in pharmaceutical industry accounted for 41% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Novo Nordisk, AstraZeneca, and Merck. Together they accounted for a combined share of 41% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the pharmaceutical industry.

Johnson & Johnson posted 338 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q3 2023, Bristol-Myers Squibb 270 jobs, Novo Nordisk 241 jobs, AstraZeneca 227 jobs, and Merck 215 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 43.15% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023

The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the pharmaceutical industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 43.15% followed by India (15.36%) and Denmark (5.71%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points lower than the 43.36% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
