The global pharma industry noticed a 6.7% drop in IT hiring activity in April 2022 over the previous month, led by F. Hoffmann-La Roche’s 10.62% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The pharma industry’s overall hiring activity declined 5.24% when compared with March 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.69% share of the global pharma industry’s hiring activity in April 2022, up 0.1% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2022 were 11.27% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 23.14% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 50.7% emerged as the top IT occupation in the pharma hiring activity in April 2022, a 25.95% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 14.25% in April 2022, down 16.6% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 13.7% share in April 2022, a decline of 33.3% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.91% share in April 2022 and a drop of 30.78% over March 2022.
Top five pharma companies by recruitment activity in April 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 79.79% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global pharma industry during April 2022 over March 2022.
F. Hoffmann-La Roche posted 483 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a rise of 373.53% over the previous month, followed by CVS Health with 231 jobs and an 8.96% growth. GlaxoSmithKline with 172 IT jobs and Sanofi with 169 jobs, recorded a 73.74% growth and a 64.08% rise, respectively, while Oak Street Health recorded a 3.95% drop with 146 job postings during April 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in pharma industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global pharma IT hiring activity in April 2022 with a 70.67% share, which marked a 35.03% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 17.15%, registering a 12.88% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 10.47% share and a 2.66% drop over March 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.41% and a month-on-month rise of 45.45%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.31%, registering a 30% decrease over the previous month.
