IllumiCare has announced the new Trials App that streamlines the process of linking patients to local or hybrid clinical trials during an appointment or consultation on the Smart Ribbon.
A non-intrusive ribbon of information, the company’s Smart Ribbon hovers above the EHR at point-of-care, nudging providers on various actions and information from over 20 apps.
In particular, the Trials App alerts providers on a real-time basis whether the patient they are treating fulfils the referral requirements for an institutional trial, as verified by the local research team.
Furthermore, the app is the first technology to operate within the current EHR system for notifying providers about clinical trials that meet their criteria of patients at the time optimal for discussing alternatives.
This aids in boosting the probability of patients joining the trial.
The Trials App is the only tool that enhances the trial match by directly connecting patients to trial organisers for follow up with a single click.

By GlobalDataIllumiCare CMO Mukul Mehra said: “Meetings between doctors and patients provide a critical opportunity to determine which clinical trials may serve as a therapeutic option for a patient, yet historically, this information is either hard to access or is provided through general, obtrusive alert systems in the HER.
“The Trials App presents patient-specific clinical trials for consideration within the clinician’s workflow, streamlining the process from awareness to enrolment for providers, study coordinators and patients.”
Coordinators of the trial will have a complete view of patients who are interested in taking part and can manage referral criteria within the app.
They can also categorise data for matching criteria for reports and prioritise trials, offering them control over the enrolment process without needing EHR programming.
In addition, this approach allows coordinators to completely track the journey of the patients within the recruitment process, permitting them to personalise communication and boost participation.
