UK-based clinical trials company Interface Clinical Research has suggested a new model to conduct primary care clinical trials following their launch at the Royal Society in London.
Interface Clinical Research has been launched as a part of Interface Clinical Services, which is an independent provider of primary care clinical services in the UK.
Interface will collaborate with more than 40 GP practices and larger healthcare organisations across the UK, in order to provide a large number of patients suited for phase III and IV clinical trials that will address the failure of 48% of sites in recruiting patients.
The new model will leverage on the existing GP practice facilities and will conduct the trials by experienced Interface investigators, and work with GPs to offer patients who can be benefitted by taking part in the trial.
It is primarily focused on retaining patients and will use its advanced retention system, which was developed over the last ten years.
Interface Clinical Research CEO Mike Drakard said: “Working with our GP partners Interface manages the whole clinical trial and is responsible to the sponsor for every aspect, from feasibility through the provision of clinical data.

By GlobalData“Because we already run hundreds of clinics at GP practices involving thousands of patients, we have developed sophisticated patient recruitment and enrolment systems, including our own in-house call centre, supported by a dedicated team who interact with the patients on a regular basis.
“Unique to the interface offering is the use of clinical pharmacists to see patients, undertake interviews, and oversee any sample collections.”
The new model also addresses the problems faced by traditional ways of recruiting and running trials, using dedicated research centres and individual GPs, which incurs more cost while failing to recruit sufficient patients.
