A natural product without any side effects; for stress, anxiety, sleep or jet-lag.
Melactoplan promotes relaxation and sleep due to its composition in the well-known patent milk protein hydrolyzate (Lactium®) and melatonin.
Melactoplan contains per capsule:
- Lactium: 150 mg
- Melatonin: 1 mg
20 capsules of 550 mg – one capsule per day before sleeping.
Lactium is a bioactive peptide (alpha-Casozepine) derived from casein, which is a natural milk protein. This amino acid goes directly to a gland in our brain called the hypothalamus and reduce the secretion that controls the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis of a hormone called CRH (corticotropin secretion hormone) which stimulates our adrenal glands to secrete glucocorticoids. Through a selective affinity for certain receptors in the brain, called GABA A receptors, Lactium increases the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter well known for its inhibitory action on anxiety and its relaxing properties.
Lactium clinical studies
Lactium was the subject of seven rigorous clinical studies conducted between 1999 and 2011 on 394 adult volunteers, all under the supervision of healthcare professionals. Those who use biological means to confirm the effectiveness of Lactium in the body.
Insomnia
A study was carried out to analyse the effect of Lactium in a group of people who worked the day shift and suffered from insomnia for at least the last 6 months. For the selection of these volunteers and also for the evaluation of the efficacy of this milk decapeptide, the PSQI-J (Japanese Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index) subjective perception test of sleep quality was used, which analyses sleep quality, latency sleep, sleep duration, habitual sleep efficacy, sleep disturbance, use of sleeping pills, and daytime dysfunction.
Lactium was found to significantly improve the overall PSQI score in treated subjects.
In particular, sleep quality was significantly improved after two weeks of treatment, and sleep latency and daytime dysfunctions significantly improved after 4 weeks.
From these results, it can be concluded that Lactium, thanks to its anti-stress properties and the total absence of adverse effects, can be a good alternative to alleviate chronic insomnia problems derived from stress.
Acquirity tolerance of Diazepam vs Lactium
Another kind of problems that are related to the use of anxiolytic drugs (benzodiazepines) is the appearance of tolerance or habituation, that is to say, that throughout treatment, the anxiolytic effects that the subject experiences diminish. In some cases, to achieve the desired effect, the dosage of the drug must be increased.
In this case, the experiment carried out consisted of a double-blind study versus placebo and Diazepam in which rats were administered a dose of 2 mg / kg of Diazepam and 12 mg of Lactium, respectively, for 4 days.
On the fifth day, they were administered half of that dose and subjected to the stress response test. The group treated with Diazepam did not experience any reduction in their anxiety level due to the tolerance acquired with the administration of Diazepam during the first 4 days, while the animals treated with Lactium experienced the usual anxiolytic effect that characterises the decapeptide.
Anti-stress effect of Lactium in the long term
Another study was conducted in which the long-term anti-stress effect of Lactium was analysed. It was a double-blind study versus placebo in which a treatment of Lactium or placebo was administered for 31 days. Before the start of the study, the participants were classified into two groups by means of a test: people who were not very reactive to stress and people who were highly reactive to stress.
(All participants were randomised to treatment with placebo or Lactium regardless of the degree of initial stress detected).
During the mental stress test, information was collected on the following parameters:
- Blood pressure
- Heart rate
- Cortisol levels in saliva
Blood pressure measurements showed a clearly significant difference between the reaction of the placebo group compared to the Lactium group. While in the group treated with Lactium we see how blood pressure is moderating, in the case of the placebo group it increases significantly during the mental stress tests.
Lactium helps with hypertension
A clinical study was conducted with Lactium versus placebo in healthy volunteers who underwent 2 stress tests (mental stress test and cold physical stress test).
In the two tests carried out, it was found that the group treated with Lactium presented fewer variations in blood pressure values due to stress compared to the placebo group.
This gives us an idea that decapeptide treatment can help in cases of stress-related hypertension.
Regarding heart rate, the results obtained with Lactium and the placebo group were equivalent, which indicates that the decapeptide does not affect heart rate.
Finally, the levels of hormones typically related to stressful situations do respond to taking Lactium.
Specifically, we see that the ACTH levels of the placebo group rise markedly after performing the stress tests, while on the contrary, in the case of the group treated with the decapeptide these levels fall.
In the case of plasma cortisol levels, in the group treated with Lactium, the levels drop significantly (indicating that the stress level is reduced) while in the placebo group the differences detected are not statistically significant.
